Precision Tool and Die Components | Custom-Machined to Your Specifications
JPT manufactures tool and die components to your exact print requirements — tight tolerances, durable materials, and production-proven quality for progressive die, stamping, and custom machining applications.
What Are Tool and Die Components?
Tool and die components are the precision-machined parts that make up progressive dies, stamping tools, forming tools, and custom fixturing systems. These include punches, die buttons, inserts, wear plates, retainers, and custom-machined detail parts — each built to exact dimensional specifications and heat-treated for the hardness and wear resistance required in production stamping environments.
At JPT, we manufacture tool and die components to your prints. There are no standard catalog parts here. Every component is machined to your geometry, your material specification, and your tolerance requirements — whether you need a single replacement punch or a full set of progressive die components for a new program launch.
JPT Tool and Die Components
JPT has been manufacturing precision tool and die components for automotive, aerospace, military, and industrial customers since 1971. Our machining capabilities cover the full range of processes required for high-precision die work — CNC turning and milling, surface grinding, wire EDM, sinker EDM, and surface finishing — all under one roof and under ISO 9001:2015 quality control.
Progressive Die Components:
- Punches and punch assemblies — custom geometries, TiN and TiCN coatings available for extended tool life
- Die buttons and die inserts — carbide, D2, A2, and M2 tool steel to match your wear and toughness requirements
- Strippers, retainers, and backup plates — machined to your assembly drawings
- Wear plates and guide components — hardened and ground for precise clearance and long service life
Custom-Machined Tool and Die Details:
- CNC turned, milled, and ground parts — machined per your DWG, STEP, IGES, CREO, or PDF files
- Wire EDM — complex contours, sharp internal corners, and thin sections not achievable by conventional machining
- Sinker EDM — complex cavity forms, blind pockets, and detailed die surfaces
- Surface treatments — heat treating, nitriding, polishing, and hard coatings to your specification
Materials and Tolerances
JPT tool and die components are manufactured from the materials your application demands. We work with the full range of tool steels and engineered materials used in precision die work:
- Tool Steels — D2, A2, M2, H13, S7, and O1 — selected for the hardness, toughness, and wear resistance required for each component
- Carbide — for die buttons, punches, and wear components where maximum hardness and abrasion resistance are required
- High-Speed Steel — for punches and cutting components in high-cycle stamping applications
- Alloy Steels — for structural die components requiring toughness and machinability
Tolerances are held to your print requirements. Typical capabilities:
| Process | Materials | Tolerance | Finishing |
|---|---|---|---|
| CNC Machining | D2, A2, Carbide | ±0.0005″ | Grinding, Polishing |
| Wire EDM | Tool Steels | ±0.0002″ | Deburring |
| Surface Grinding | All Tool Steels | ±0.0001″ | Lapping available |
| Sinker EDM | Hardened Steels, Carbide | ±0.0003″ | Polishing available |
Reverse Engineering and Rework
JPT can reverse engineer almost any tool and die component from a worn or broken part. Bring us the original and we’ll measure, document, and manufacture a replacement — often with material or geometry improvements to extend service life beyond the original. File formats accepted: DWG, STEP, IGES, CREO, and PDF.
Rework and repair services are also available for worn tool and die components. In many cases, reworking a worn punch or die button to like-new condition is more cost-effective than full replacement — particularly on carbide or complex-geometry components where the material investment is significant.

The JPT Way
Most tooling problems aren’t solved by buying off the shelf. They’re solved by understanding the application, the machine, and the process — then engineering the right solution.
Cutting tools. Fixturing. Complete production solutions. That’s been the JPT way since 1971. No catalogs. No guessing. Just engineering.
