JPT PASS System Differential Case
The JPT PASS™ System differential case is a patented drop-in tooling and fixturing platform for CNC differential case machining — delivering the fastest cycle times on the line, rapid changeover, and seamless prototype-to-production continuity.
What Is the JPT PASS™ System?

The JPT PASS™ System differential case tooling is a patented cutter insertion and fixturing system designed specifically for CNC and special-purpose differential case machining equipment. Developed by JPT beginning in 2007, the PASS™ System revolutionized how differential cases are machined — eliminating hangers, enabling angular cutter entry into the part, and allowing a single machine to handle differential case sizes from 7¼ to 11.
The PASS™ System is not a catalog tooling solution. It is a complete machining system — tooling, fixturing, drive arbors, and process — engineered as an integrated package. JPT’s involvement in every element of the system is what produces tool life in the many thousands of cycles and workpiece quality that meets the tightest production requirements consistently.

JPT PASS™ System Differential Case Advantages
Fastest Cycle Time on the Line
JPT PASS™ System operations are typically the fastest in the differential case machining sequence. The system is fully optimized for high-speed CNC operation — minimizing non-cut time and maximizing spindle utilization on every cycle.
Automation Ready
The PASS™ System is designed for seamless integration with automated part handling and loading systems. For manual operation, a single operator can run four PASS™ System machines simultaneously — a significant labor efficiency advantage on high-volume lines.
Rapid Changeover
The JPT PASS™ System was designed with changeover as a core requirement — not an afterthought. Complete fixture and tooling changes typically finish in under one hour. For a family of differential case parts on properly configured equipment, changeover can be measured in seconds. No wrenches required for cutter and hanger changes.
Prototype to Production Continuity
The PASS™ System was originally developed for prototype and low-volume differential case manufacturers where rapid changeover enables higher equipment utilization and the ability to capture more business on a single machine. A critical advantage of this approach: prototype tooling becomes production tooling. PPAP validation, quality data, and tool life are all established at prototype — eliminating re-qualification cost and risk when production launches.
Balanced Line Scalability
As production volumes grow, capacity is added by placing machines upstream from the PASS™ System stations — not by changing the process or re-qualifying tooling. The PASS™ System process remains constant while the line scales around it, providing flexibility and stability that dedicated single-operation equipment cannot match.
Platform Versatility
A single PASS™ System machine installation handles differential case sizes from 7¼ to 11. Fixture quick-change is accomplished by replacing a single on-machine detail. Drive arbors quick-change using the JPT QC System. The angular entry design allows for smaller part windows and easier changeover than conventional drop-in systems.

Why the PASS™ System Is Not a Commodity
JPT PASS system differential case cutters are frequently requested to be quoted without broader process involvement. In our experience, this approach consistently produces poor results for everyone involved. In our experience, this approach consistently produces poor results for everyone involved. The PASS™ System is not a standard catalog tooling application — success depends on the interaction of every element in the system.
JPT’s application involvement covers:
- PASS™ cutter insertion system configuration
- Fixture design and clamping method
- Cutter body to hanger interface design
- Drive arbor engagement design
- Insert material, geometry, and tolerancing
- Recommended speeds and feeds
- Workpiece material and prior process condition
- Machine tool specifications and maintenance
- Locate and clamping points
- Gaging and run-off requirements
JPT’s increased involvement across all areas of differential case manufacturing has grown out of necessity — because our customers’ results depend on it.

Is the JPT PASS™ System Right for Your Differential Case Operation?
The JPT PASS system differential case platform requires upfront equipment and process commitment. It delivers its greatest advantages on new differential case lines, prototype operations, and low-to-medium volume production where changeover flexibility and equipment utilization are priorities. Customers already running dedicated equipment may find conversion requires capital investment — JPT can evaluate your current setup and provide an honest assessment of whether PASS™ System implementation makes sense for your situation.

The JPT Way
Most tooling problems aren’t solved by buying off the shelf. They’re solved by understanding the application, the machine, and the process — then engineering the right solution.
Cutting tools. Fixturing. Complete production solutions. That’s been the JPT way since 1971. No catalogs. No guessing. Just engineering.
