Bracket Tooling
| JPT’s bracket tooling is engineered for the precise milling and broaching operations required to machine automotive anchor brackets and suspension brackets to specification. Anchor brackets — including disc brake anchor brackets, suspension brackets, and engine mount brackets — require tight tolerances on mating faces, pad abutment surfaces, and mounting features to ensure proper fit, function, and long-term durability in service. JPT has been designing and manufacturing special anchor bracket tooling since 1971, serving automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers across North America. |

Brackets are produced by two primary machining methods: milling and broaching. JPT engineers and manufactures tooling for both. The choice between milling and broaching depends on the bracket geometry, production volume, machine platform, and the specific surface finish and tolerance requirements of each feature. JPT’s application engineers work directly with manufacturing engineers to determine the right approach — or the right combination of both — for your specific bracket application.

Anchor Bracket Tooling Capabilities
JPT designs and manufactures a complete range of anchor bracket tooling covering every critical machining operation:
- Milling Cutters
- Arbors
- Straddle Milling Cutters
- Indexable Broach Tooling
Milling for Anchor Brackets
Milling is the most common method for machining anchor bracket faces, abutment surfaces, and profiles. JPT designs and manufactures special milling cutters optimized for the specific geometry, material, and cycle time requirements of your bracket application. Gang milling setups allow multiple faces to be machined simultaneously, reducing cycle time and improving parallelism between mating surfaces.

Straddle milling is particularly effective for anchor bracket applications where two parallel faces must be machined simultaneously to a precise width dimension. JPT’s straddle milling cutters are engineered to the specific face width, material, and surface finish requirements of your bracket, with insert geometry and coatings selected for consistent performance across high-volume production runs.
Broaching for Anchor Brackets
For anchor bracket applications where broaching is the preferred or specified process, JPT manufactures indexable broach tooling designed to produce the required slot profiles and abutment features in a single controlled pass. JPT’s indexable broach designs use rotatable and reversible inserts that provide as many as ten cutting edges per insert — dramatically reducing cost per edge compared to brazed or solid broach designs. Worn or damaged inserts can be replaced at the machine without returning the full tool body for regrinding, reducing tooling downtime and lowering cost per part across the life of the tooling program.

Bracket Tooling Applications
JPT’s anchor bracket tooling experience covers a wide range of automotive bracket applications. The disc brake anchor bracket is the highest-volume and most tolerance-critical bracket application in automotive production — see our dedicated Disc Brake Anchor Bracket Tooling page for complete details on JPT’s capabilities for that application.
Beyond disc brake anchor brackets, JPT has engineered milling and broaching solutions for suspension brackets, engine mount brackets, caliper brackets, and other structural bracket components across multiple OEM and Tier 1 programs. Each application begins with a direct conversation about the part drawing, machine platform, material, and production volume — not a catalog selection. JPT’s application engineers specify insert geometry, grade, coating, and cutting parameters together, because each of those decisions affects the performance of the complete tooling system.
JPT Quality and Application Support
JPT holds ISO 9001:2015 certification, ensuring that design, manufacturing, and inspection processes for every anchor bracket tooling system meet rigorous quality standards. All tooling is manufactured at JPT’s facility in Macomb County, Michigan, and is supported by our application engineering team from design through production, with repair and reconditioning services available to extend the working life of your existing tooling investment.
JPT’s anchor bracket tooling is available for both milling and broaching applications, covering a wide range of bracket geometries, materials, and production volumes. Whether your program runs on CNC machining centers or dedicated special-purpose equipment, JPT has the engineering depth to specify the right tooling configuration for your specific bracket application. Every solution is backed by JPT’s ISO 9001:2015 quality system and more than five decades of special indexable tooling experience in automotive production.
Manufacturing engineers and tooling buyers working on anchor bracket machining applications can find additional industry resources through the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) and government procurement information at SAM.gov.
JPT’s anchor bracket tooling programs have covered passenger car, light truck, and heavy truck applications across cast iron, nodular iron, aluminum, and high-strength steel materials. The right insert grade and coating selection for your bracket material makes a significant difference in tool life and surface finish consistency. JPT’s application engineers specify these details from the start — not as an afterthought — so your tooling performs from the first part without the trial-and-error that generic tooling typically requires.

The JPT Way
Most tooling problems aren’t solved by buying off the shelf. They’re solved by understanding the application, the machine, and the process — then engineering the right solution.
Cutting tools. Fixturing. Complete production solutions. That’s been the JPT way since 1971. No catalogs. No guessing. Just engineering.
