Indexable Tool Repair Michigan — Rebuild Instead of Replace
JPT provides indexable tool repair services in Michigan, helping manufacturers rebuild and recondition damaged cutting tools to like-new performance. Our tool repair services save significant tooling costs compared to full replacement and are available for a wide range of special indexable tooling systems.
Special tooling is a capital investment, not a consumable. A generating head, line bar, or custom boring system represents engineering hours, precision manufacturing, and a proven process on your line. When that tool is damaged or worn, replacing it means paying for all of that again and waiting out a new build lead time. Rebuilding it costs a fraction and returns the same tool, to the same specification, in a fraction of the time.
What We Repair
JPT repairs a full range of special cutting tools including indexable milling cutters, boring bars, reaming tools, broaches, and custom engineered tooling systems. Our repair services include pocket reconditioning, seat grinding, body repair, and complete tool rebuilding.
Damage that looks terminal on the shop floor is often entirely recoverable. Crashed pockets can be reground and re-seated. Worn locating surfaces can be restored to original geometry. Bodies with impact damage can be repaired, re-machined, and re-certified. In many cases a tool that has been sitting on a shelf as scrap is a straightforward rebuild.
Why Choose JPT for Indexable Tool Repair
As the original manufacturer of many of the tools we repair, JPT brings unmatched expertise to every repair job. We understand the design intent of each tool and restore it to original specifications using the same materials and processes used in new tool manufacturing.
That matters more than it sounds. A general machine shop can weld and grind, but restoring a precision indexable tool means knowing the original insert geometry, the seating tolerances, the runout specification, and how the tool was meant to perform in the cut. JPT has the prints, the process knowledge, and the measurement capability to return a tool to the condition it left our floor in.
Repairs Indexable & Motion Tool Repair Services

We Repair All Brands
JPT repairs tooling regardless of who manufactured it. If the original supplier has gone out of business, been acquired, or simply stopped supporting the tool you depend on, that does not make the tool disposable. We regularly rebuild competitor tooling, reverse-engineer replacement components for systems no longer supported, and return orphaned tools to full production service.
When the original manufacturer is out of business, reconditioning becomes a form of obsolete-tooling support in its own right. See how JPT reconditioned a high-value motion tool for a manufacturer no longer in business — reviving a tool that would otherwise have been scrapped.
JPT specializes in difficult to manufacture Motion Tooling and tools which require close tolerances.
Motion Tools are called by many names in the industry. They include:
- Generating Heads
- Gen Heads
- ISO Tools
- Actuating Tools

We Design, manufacture and repair them all!
- Feed-out Tools
- Taper Bore Tools
- Motion Tools – with machine drawbar
- CNC Motion Tools – without machine drawbar
- Drawbar Tools
- Boring Bars (Fixed pocket and Cartridge Style)
- Milling Cutters
- TCT Reamers
Capital Component and Cutting Detail
Understanding how a tooling system is built explains why repair makes economic sense. Every JPT motion tool or generating head system consists of two parts. The capital component is the engineered body that mounts to your machine spindle, custom-designed to your interface and your part. It is not consumed in production. The cutting detail is the replaceable element that contacts the workpiece, designed for your exact part geometry and replaced on a production cycle.
Repair work targets the capital component. That body is the expensive, long-lead, engineering-intensive half of the system, and it is built to stay in service for years. Restoring it rather than replacing it protects the original investment and keeps a proven process running. Cutting details continue to be ordered to specification as normal.
The Economics of Tool Repair
Damaged tools can be economically rebuilt to perform the same as new tooling.
Save the expense of buying a new tool by rebuilding or modifying existing tooling.
Beyond the direct price difference, rebuilding avoids the qualification cycle that comes with new tooling. A rebuilt tool returns to a process that is already validated. There is no re-proving, no new PPAP, and no production risk from an unfamiliar tool. For manufacturers running tight schedules, that continuity is often worth more than the purchase price savings.
Modification is also an option. If your part has changed or your process has moved, an existing tool can often be re-engineered to the new requirement rather than scrapped. Send us the tool and the new print and we will tell you what is possible.
Indexable Tool Repair for Michigan and Beyond

The JPT Way
Most tooling problems aren’t solved by buying off the shelf. They’re solved by understanding the application, the machine, and the process — then engineering the right solution.
Cutting tools. Fixturing. Complete production solutions. That’s been the JPT way since 1971. No catalogs. No guessing. Just engineering.
